Key West

Yes, it's true - we got married!
(OK, so you may have a few questions, like...)

Did anyone know?
No. This was a surprise wedding.  Our elopement plans were a secret from even our parents and siblings until the day before.

When did you decide to 'elope' ?
Last August, while spending a weekend in Wildwood, NJ, we decided we wanted to get married.  There was no proposal, no ring, no dramatic acceptance, and we knew this would need to be a VERY casual wedding.
A simple elopement with our families fit the bill !

Why Key West?
Besides the warm air, blue water, and diverse revelry, we must credit Susie's little sister, Katie, for her choice of residence in Key West.  It has led to many family vacations on the island and we all love spending time there.

How did it go down?
Friday afternoon everyone arrived in Key West for a week long family vacation. After a beautiful day at the beach (where we shared the water with some wild manatees!) we made the big announcement.  Thankfully, everyone embraced our elopement plans.

The very next day we strolled to the waterfront to board the skipjack Danger's Prize.  We left the harbor around 3:00 and headed off into the beautiful water of the keys backcountry.

After an hour of sailing we arrived at a calm and peaceful sandbar off Woman Key and dropped anchor. A few moments later everyone gathered round....

The ceremony was short and sweet, with Captain Nik officiating.  Our parents and siblings all did readings, followed by our own vows. There wasn't a dry eye on the boat!

After a final kiss to end the ceremony, the champagne was popped, suits went on and it was time for a swim...

Afterwards we headed to Santiago's Bodega for a fabulous tapas dinner!

It was a perfect day.
